popping..

US Route 101

US Route 101

to San Francisco bay area leads you straight to the Golden Gate Bridge…

nothing like a “wide” open highway to get you to where you’re going- FAST!

(as in majority of the highways in the US, this is six lanes going to one direction!)

  1. Nice take on this week’s theme. US highways are wider than our’s in England. Happy weekend

  3. A wide highway that looks to be needed as there are quite a few cars on it!

  6. that’s awesome. I haven’t been to California in years….I actually miss it sometimes. I always wanted to get up to the SG area. Have you been to the Winchester Mansion? It’s supposed to be fairly close to there

  7. Wow, 6 lanes? I think Atlanta, GA only has 5. Great shot. Have a Merry Christmas.

  8. That looks treacherous, yikes! It’s too hilly here in Upstate NY to have such a highway. Our own Thruway, the largest highway we have, is two lanes wide for one direction.

  9. I didn’t even give a thought to highway scenes as an example of “wide”. My contribution is one I floated as the best example I could think of.

  10. @YTSL – yes, the photo is quite misleading huh. few cars when we were on it because this was not the busiest time. this highway is a major thoroughfare and it’s crazy during rush hours, driving 20 miles and hour on a normally 65 miles an hour road. :-)

  11. @Elizabeth – i’ve heard of the mysterious Winchester Mansion and I’d love to visit it one day! It’s in San Jose and funny, I’ve been in CA many times visiting Sacramento, Fresno, LA and San Fran but I’ve never been there… :-)

    I LOVE CALIFORNIA! I’d move there in a heartbeat but I can’t right now… LIFE! :-(

  12. @Leslie – i’m lucky i guess in a way because my mother and our youngest sis lives in CA so I get to visit often…though I do MISS THEM A LOT!! :-(

  13. @Mrs. Mecomber – Oh yeah, this is a scary road! with 6 lanes- that’s 6 reasons for crazy drivers to just cut you off left and right and the guy in front of you doesn’t always use directionals so it is dangerous and frustrating driving in most of CA’s highways. I though NY drivers are crazy, people in CA drives equally ridiculous if not worse! LOL

What’s in Upstate NY? I’ve never been and i’ve been to NY many times now…

  14. @Lee (Tarheel Rambler) – I actually thought I’d see more wide highways in Photohunt but so far haven’t came across another showing roads.. I thought your ‘floating’ photo was great! :-)

  15. @kissedaloatoads – Even here in MA, I think we only have 4- CA has such wide highways it’s scary. Happy Holidays! :-)

@jams O’Donnell My sister who lives in UK tells me the same thing! I didn’t really give it much thought until this theme came along and I had to think of “wide.”

@saint2 Yes, it gets you to where you’re going fast when not in rush hours as Hootin’ Anni contributed but it’s a scary road to be at! :-)

This is both a mixed bag and a personal blog, not a food blog; although I may talk about food sometimes! :-) I am a Filipina Expat living in the United States. The pages here are random musings of love and hate, rants and raves and anything in between. Sinigang is a metaphor to signify all my favorites in life; all that interests me (or not!).

The rotating header shows original images of the Philippine Islands then and now; "bringing back memories of scenic greens, warm sun, blue waters, great friends and the solace of home..."
